What is silk?
Before you read about the benefits of silk, you should first know what kind of material silk is. The terms satin and silk are often mixed up.
Silk is 100% natural
It is a material with very fine properties for, for example, a healthy and pleasant sleep. Silk is made from the cocoon of the silk moth. And because only water is used in the production of silk, it is an Eco-friendly fabric. Many people think that satin is a fabric, but this is a weaving technique. In this weaving technique, four weft threads run over one warp thread, creating a beautiful shine. Yarn can also be woven very closely together, making the fabric wonderfully supple. And that’s what it really is: a weaving technique that makes the fabric smooth, shiny and supple. Satin is available in polyester and cotton. So if you read somewhere that something is made of 100% satin, you should know that silk and satin are not the same. Satin woven fabrics are made of cotton or polyester. While silk is 100% natural.
Silk is strong, resilient and insulating against cold and heat. It is not only pleasing to the eye, it feels wonderfully soft and is lightweight. In addition, silk is anti-allergic, antibacterial and anti-static. Not to mention it’s timeless.
Silk is ideal for skin and hair
Legend has it that silk bedding ensures shiny silky hair, fewer wrinkles and clear skin. Wow, that’s what everyone wants, right? Thanks to the soft shine and smooth satin weave, you can ‘slide and glide’ over the bedding so your skin doesn’t wrinkle. Your hair also flows smoothly over it. It almost seems that the fabric literally adds shine to your hair. The result: shiny hair without a lot of tangles. The hair stays longer and better in shape and hydrated. It also keeps the skin hydrated and soft. And it prevents temple folds, which can cause wrinkles. Silk is hypoallergenic. Dust mites do not survive on silk making it extremely suitable for house dust mite allergies.
