How to wash silk products

So now that you have your silk pillowcases, what’s the best way to keep them looking like new? We’ve got you covered. No more dry cleaners anymore!

Pay special attention to the following instructions to maintain the softness of your silk items. Please understand that it is natural for silk to lose its sheen slightly after washing. The fabric still retains its durability and will last for many years. It even gets softer after each wash!

Detergent and fabric softeners

Choose a detergent designed for delicate fabrics such as Woolite, Ivory Liquid Soap or baby shampoo. Do not use fabric softeners or aggressive detergents containing bleach. The use of cold or lukewarm water for hand or machine washing is recommended.

Wash by hand

Follow the above instructions. Fill a bucket with lukewarm water. Add detergent suitable for hand washing. Let the silk product soak for a while and then immerse it a few more times. Avoid wringing or rubbing so that you do not damage the fabric. Then rinse the silk product under running water. For an extra silky feel, add a few drops of your own hair conditioner to the final rinse, instead of fabric softener. Rinse out the hair conditioner and gently squeeze out the water.

Machine wash

If your washing machine has a wool and silk cycle, you can also machine wash delicate clothes. Make sure that:

  • the speed of the centrifuge is at the lowest setting;
  • you use special wool or delicate detergent;
  • the temperature does not exceed 30°C;
  • you do not use fabric softener or synthetic detergent;
  • you put the silk products in a mesh laundry bag and turn the silk product inside out;
  • you only wash delicate, durable or fragile fabrics together to prevent damage.

Drying

We recommend that you do not put silk fabrics in the dryer unless your dryer has a special setting for delicate fabrics. Rather hang the silk fabrics on a drying rack. When using the centrifuge, we recommend that you let it run for a maximum of 10 minutes.
