If you don’t know why sealing natural hair is so important, then this post is for you!
Even though you do everything you can to take care of your hair as well as possible, your hair can look dry. You can prevent this by sealing your hair with moisture. Before we get into today’s post, let me introduce myself if you’re a newbie here!
Hi there! My name is Charisse, I would like to welcome you to my blog! Here I share great information and valuable tips that will help you become a better version of yourself.
Just a quick tip: If you suffer from hair loss and/or breakage, you could prevent this by solving it from the outside. When I started taking certain vitamins I experienced less hair breakage. Or you can try this Fenugreek Hair Growth Oil which I have found tackles more hair problems. The Fenugreek Hair Growth Oil helped me. I hope it works for you too. Now that we’ve discussed that, we can move on.
If you’re all natural, I’m sure you hear all the time that sealing natural hair is necessary to maintain the health of our curls. But if you don’t seal your natural hair, will you see a decline in the health of your hair? Let’s learn more about our hair!
Natural hair & sebum
Dry hair means thirsty hair, hair that is not well hydrated. For natural hair itself, it is almost impossible to retain moisture. And that’s where sebum comes in. Sebum is an oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands on our scalp. Sebum keeps the hair conditioned and lubricated and creates an external barrier that protects the hair. In the absence of sebum, our hair becomes dry. In people with smooth and straight hair, the sebum slides easily down the entire hair strand. This is often different for people with curly hair. The curls in the hair make it difficult for sebum to reach the ends of the hair.
To keep her hydrated we need water, oil and butters. Some have to do a little more for that than others. To mimic the action and function of the sebum in the hair shaft, you create a barrier by sealing the hair so that the hair remains hydrated.
How do you seal your natural hair?
You seal your hair best by first moistening it with water or a water-based product such as a conditioner. Then apply your butter or oil, concentrating on your ends, and style as usual.
How does it work?
If you fill two jars with water and add a layer of oil to one jar, you will see the next day that the water in the jar without a layer of oil the water has evaporated. And that the jar with a layer of oil is still almost as full. So oil also works as a sealant on our hair.
What is the best product to seal your hair?
There are several products that you can use to seal your hair. You can use almost any natural oil. For example, you can use light oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, etc. Or heavier oils such as avocado oil, olive oil, castor oil, etc. You can also use butters such as sheabutter, mango butter, avocado butter etc. Butters are clearly heavier than oils, so they are better suited for people with thick hair and/or if it’s cold outside.
Is it really necessary to seal your natural hair?
After you’ve spent an entire day pre-pooing, shampooing, cowashing, deep conditioning and moisturizing your hair, the last thing you want to end up with is dry hair because you didn’t seal in all that moisture. So I recommend that you always seal your hair with an oil or butter after moisturizing.
I noticed a huge difference in the health of my hair myself when I started sealing my hair. Aside from the fact that sealing keeps your hair hydrated, many natural oils and butters contain nutrients that are very beneficial for the hair. Sealing can also help to reduce tangles, retain length and make your hair feel softer.
As we all know, everyone’s hair is different and reacts to different things, but for the vast majority of people, sealing the hair is a necessity. It improves the health of your hair.
